A traffic operation on 22 September ran between the hours of 8am to 1pm and involved the examination of 33 vehicles that were travelling along the A444 and the surrounding areas of The Richo Arena and Ash Green.
The operation was coordinated and implemented by police officers from Bedworth and Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Operational Patrol Units, in conjunction with partner agencies HMRC and Taxi Licensing.
3 Vehicle Defect Rectification Schemes (VDRS) notices, which give drivers 14 days to fix defects, were issued in relation to broken wing mirrors, malfunctioning reverse lights and no water in the windscreen washer.
3 Traffic Offence Reported for Summons (TORS) notices were also handed out; 1 for no current MOT and 2 for driving whilst using a mobile phone.
PCSO Amrit Pnaiser said “The operation was a success but it is a shame that it was necessary. It’s extremely concerning that in the space of just 5 hours, so many cars were found to have serious defects or were being driven illegally.
It is totally irresponsible to drive a vehicle that is not in a fit condition for the road and those that recklessly choose to do so are putting themselves and other road users at risk of harm.
We will continue to target these irresponsible road users and there will be consequences for their actions.”
