Following a Warwickshire Police investigation, a man was sentenced for a racially aggravated public order offence by Coventry Magistrates Court on 29 April.
Mark Senter, aged 48 from an address in Railway Terrace, Rugby, appeared in court in connection with an incident that took place on 27 April at Nuneaton Justice Centre.
The court heard that Senter had been drinking beer in a designated no alcohol zone in Rugby town centre. When challenged by a police officer, Senter sprayed the beer over her.
Following his subsequent arrest, Senter was taken to Nuneaton Justice Centre where he used racially abusive language.
Senter pleaded guilty to being Drunk and Disorderly in a Public Place and racially aggravate harassment. He was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay £100 in compensation as well as a £128 surcharge to fund victim services.
Warwickshire Police Deputy Chief Constable Debbie Tedds said “We welcome the courts sentencing that reflects the serious nature of this offence.
“Using racially abusive language towards anyone is abhorrent and totally unacceptable. Warwickshire police maintains a zero tolerance policy for all aspects of hate crime and offenders will be brought to justice.”
