As part of National Volunteer Week Warwickshire Police and Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe are inviting people to find out if they’ve got what it takes to undertake one of the most rewarding and challenging volunteering opportunities there is.

Special Constables are men and women who give up their time to serve the community supporting and working alongside the regular police force. They have fully warranted powers, wear the same uniform and perform the same duties as their police officer colleagues.

Completing a minimum of 200 hours annually, equating to 16 hours per month, Special Constables are a vital link between the local community and police force, helping to keep our communities safe.

Whilst the majority of Special Constables assist in the delivery of frontline policing, skills and experience from outside the force can be used to support specialist roles such as roads policing and rural crime.

Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe said: “Volunteering as a Special Constable is a hugely rewarding way to give back to the local community and help make it safer and more secure for everyone’s benefit. While we now have record numbers of regular police officers in the county, I want to see Warwickshire Special Constabulary get a real boost too, with more volunteers available to help support frontline policing.

“Specials can help bring in new skills and experiences to the force and are a very valued part of the police family. For the individuals who volunteer, as well as being rewarding it can also be a great boost to career prospects, both inside and outside of policing.

“By investing a little of your free time you can help to make a difference, so why not join one of the force’s online taster sessions to learn more about the role and how it might be right for you.”

Anyone who is interested is invited to find out more by joining a national on-line taster evening on Monday 14 June at 6.30pm. Click here to book your space.
