Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police, working in partnership with Malvern Hills District Council have created a 'Boat Watch' scheme to be run alongside Neighbourhood Watch to promote security and safety on the inland waterways.

The aim is to offer advice and the latest security devices to reduce the likelihood of boat owners and other users of our waterways becoming victims of crime.

Joining the scheme is voluntary and FREE. Every member who joins will receive a welcome pack including a set of stickers for their boat, an advice leaflet on security measures, a registration form for recording serial numbers and boat/engine details and  the option of buying theft deterrent security items and 'Smart Water' property marking kits at heavily discounted prices.

Since starting the scheme other marinas and clubs along the River Severn have expressed an interest in starting their own schemes and the local office of The Canals and Rivers Trust and The Angling Trust have offered their support.

We are now rolling this scheme out across the Alliance area and are keen to enlist as many members as possible.

Any person or club who wishes to start a local scheme will get a start-up pack from us, along with advice and guidance on starting the scheme. As the design is based on Neighbourhood Watch it is very simple: All we ask is for members to report any suspicious activity:

  • In case of an emergency or a crime in progress, dial 999
  • For non urgent incident and crimes that are not in progress, dial 101
