Man jailed for rape of a woman in Nuneaton

A man has been jailed for nine years for raping a woman in Nuneaton.

Mark Stephen Partington, 29, of Pear Tree Avenue, Nuneaton, denied rape but was found guilty by a jury at Warwick Crown Court.

He was sentenced at the same court on Friday (5 July).

At around 4.20am on 23 April 2017, the victim - a woman in her 20s -was raped by Partington in Haunchwood Road, Nuneaton.

A resident on the road saw the attack and called police who arrived to arrest Partington.

Detective Sergeant Dave Moorman from Nuneaton CID said: "This was a shocking and cowardly attack by Partington. Today he has been made to pay for his crime.

"Thankfully, due to a witness calling police, officers arrived quickly and detained Partington. Women in Nuneaton are safer with him off our streets. The length of the sentence reflects the seriousness of this offence.

"I'd like to pay tribute the victim who has shown immense bravery in supporting this investigation and trial. I hope she can take comfort from the seeing Partington behind bars."
