Ticket tout jailed for theft

A man has been jailed after stealing thousands of pounds he had taken in return for providing entrance to sport and music events.

Alan Bott, 44, formerly of Hilton Avenue, Nuneaton, sold tickets and provided entry to events in the Midlands.

For a time people were happy with the service he provided. However, in 2015, 21 people paid more than £10,000 and did not receive their tickets.

In police interview he admitted stealing the money after facing financial difficulties.

Bott denied committing fraud but admitted theft.

He also pleaded guilty to thefts and a burglary in Tyne and Wear.

Appearing at Coventry Crown Court on Thursday (13 June) he was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

Detective Constable Matthew Bird from Nuneaton CID said: "Bott systematically stole thousands of pounds from people who had handed over the money in good faith. We welcome the sentence and hope it sends out a warning to others who consider acting in the same manner."
