Nuneaton wallet theft prompts police appeal

Police are appealing for information after a distraction theft of a wallet from a man in his 80s.

The crime was committed outside the Post Office in Weddington Road on Thursday (30 May) at 11.20am.

Two females with clipboards approached the partially sighted man and started to ask him questions. While he was distracted one of them stole his wallet containing his pension that he'd just withdrawn.

The offenders are described as being teenagers with dark skin and dark hair. They were wearing jeans and dark tops.

PC Ian Barnacle said: "This was a shocking crime against a vulnerable victim and we want to identify those responsible.

"There have been similar incidents in the area recently and I would urge people to be on their guard and alert to the risk.

"If you are engaged in conversation by a stranger in the street then be aware of your surroundings and ensure your valuables are secure."

Anyone with information that could help police identify those responsible should call 101 quoting incident 218 of 30 May 2019. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
