Man charged with drug and vehicle offences after being arrested in Nuneaton

A man has been charged with drug and vehicle offences after being arrested in Nuneaton yesterday (Wednesday 6 February).

The man was arrested after officers from the local safer neighbourhood team spotted a suspicious car in Norman Avenue, Nuneaton.

Officers from the Nuneaton Offender Management Unit stopped the car, which they quickly established had been reported stolen, but the driver fled the scene on foot.

Zohabe Akbar, 23, of Norman Street, Dudley, was arrested nearby.

A knife was seized from the car.

Akbar was charged with possession of a knife in a public place, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and theft of a motor vehicle. He was also charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle in connections with offences in Nuneaton last year.

Akbar was remanded in custody and will appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court today (Thursday 7 February).

Police believe the driver of the car discarded a number of items as he fled the scene. If anyone sees any of these items or knows where they might be please contact the Nuneaton Offender Management Unit on 02476 483537 or 02476 483003.
