Woman dies following collision in Bedworth

A woman has died following a collision with a police car responding to an emergency call in Bedworth.

The incident occurred at around midday today (Wednesday, 23 January) on Coventry Road, Bedworth. The police car stopped at the scene and officers administered first aid prior to the arrival of the ambulance service.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by air ambulance where she sadly later died.  

Warwickshire Police's Professional Standards Department has been informed and an independent investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has commenced.

Assistant Chief Constable Alex Franklin-Smith said: "Our thoughts are with the woman's family at this very difficult time.

"The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), and we are cooperating fully with their investigation."

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 154 of 23 January.
