Two males approach child in Water Orton

Water Orton Safer Neighbourhood Team have been made aware of an incident involving a young person and two males on Plank Lane, Water Orton on Thursday 18th October 2018.

The incident occurred at around 4.40pm when the 11 year old was riding home from School and he was approached by two males in a small silver coloured hatchback vehicle and told the child to put his helmet on. The child did this and rode off, but shortly after he removed his helmet and the car once again stopped and the occupant told the child to put his helmet back on.

One of the males then told the child that he knew his father and he was on the phone to which the child told the male that he would be home soon.

At this point, the child rode home and informed his parents about the incident. At no point did the two males attempt to lure, snatch or encourage the child to get into the vehicle.

PC Scot Ramsell, beat officer for Water Orton Said "Warwickshire Police received a call at around 7.20pm on Thursday 18th October 2018 relating to an incident on Plank Lane, Water Orton where an 11 year old child was spoken to by two males in a silver coloured hatchback with the partial number plate "C" at the beginning. Whilst concerning that the two males engaged with the child it could be completely innocent and just two people doing a good deed in by encouraging the child to put his helmet on whilst riding his bike. At this stage we are not ruling anything out and we have put a plan in place with Carl Lewis, Head teacher of Water Orton Primary School, to increase patrols and provide a visible presence of the coming weeks to offer re assurance to parents. We are working closely with Warwickshire County Council to bring a Stranger Awareness package to the School I would urge the public not to panic about this incident because although it is of a concern to us it isn't reason for significant adjustments in routine"

Police are asking for anyone with Dashcam Footage of the incident or any witnesses to contact Coleshill Police Station on 02476 48 3554.
