M6 closed between J2 and J3

The M6 is currently closed between J2 (Coventry) and J3 due to a serious collision.

UPDATE: 6.20am

Earlier this morning police attended a collision on the M6 involving four vehicles.

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene and emergency services are in attendance.

The motorway is currently closed northbound between J2 and J3.

It is likely to be closed for some time to allow for collision investigation.

Superintendent Emma Bastone said: "We know this is likely to cause significant disruption to motorists this morning and I would like to thank them for their patience and say we are doing all we can to re-open the road as soon as we can.

"This was a serious collision in which sadly a man has died and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

"We do have diversions in place however there will be delays and we would therefore ask motorists if they can to find an alternative route."

UPDATE 5.50am: The M6 southbound is now open. Northbound remains closed between J2 and J3. Diversions are in place however if possible motorists are advised to find an alternative route.

Earlier this morning police attended a collision on the northbound carriageway of the motorway involving four vehicles.

A man in his 40s was sadly pronounced dead.

Police, fire, ambulance and the Highways Agency are currently at the scene dealing with the incident.

It is likely the road will be closed for some significant time and motorists are advised to find an alternative route.

Diversions are in place.
