UPDATED: Appeal after taxi drivers robbed in Atherstone

UPDATE, 15:35, 22/03/2018 : Officers have arrested a 38-year-old man from Atherstone on suspicion of robbery. Investigations are ongoing.


Police are appealing for information after two taxi drivers were robbed in separate incidents in Atherstone.

The first incident occurred at around 9.25pm on Tuesday (20 March). The driver picked up a passenger from Barsby Close. He drove around the corner at which point the man asked him to stop on Cooks Close.

The man then pulled a knife on the driver and demanded his money.

The offender left the scene with a quantity of cash.

The driver suffered a minor cut to his hand.

The second incident occurred at 11.36pm last night (Wednesdays 21 March). The driver picked up two men from Purley View. The men produced knives and demanded to be driven to Church Walk.

They left the vehicle with a quantity of cash.

The victim of the second incident provided a description of the two men. The first man was around six foot tall and wearing a black hoody with the hood up, a black and white chequered scarf and dark blue or black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with three stripes on the outside of the legs.

The second man was around 5 ft 10 in tall and wearing a navy hoody with the hood up, dark shoes and a blue or grey scarf around his face.

Both men had local accents.

Detective Constable Chris Bell said: "These incidents were terrifying for the victims and I would urge anyone with information to contact police."
