Robbers armed with hammers take money from shop in Welford

Officers are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at Maypole Stores on High Street, Welford-on-Avon.

The incident occurred at around 8.20pm yesterday (Monday 22 January).

It was reported that three men wearing dark clothes with their faces covered entered the store armed with hammers and threatened a man before leaving with a quantity of cash. They left the scene heading towards Bidford in a Mercedes 4x4.

A man in his 50s was hit during the incident, suffering minor injuries to his hands and arms.

Detective Sergeant Richard Simpkins said: "Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries but he has been left feeling shaken.

"The shop is on the main road through Welford so someone passing by may have seen the incident or seen the men coming or going from the store.

"I would like to appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 384 of 22 January 2018. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org
