Tachbrook Road, Leamington, closed due to suspected chemical leak

At around 7pm today (Saturday, September 9) police received a report of a strong chemical smell, suspected to be ammonia, in the Tachbrook Road area of Leamington Spa.

Although the incident is not being treated as suspicious, the immediate area has been cordoned off as a precaution and West Midlands Ambulance Service and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue are in attendance.

No injuries have been reported but local residents are advised to close all windows and doors to minimise any potential exposure.

Public safety is the primary concern of police and partners and we appreciate the patience and assistance of members of the public whilst a safe search and removal of the chemical is carried out. It is likely that the disruption will continue throughout this evening and tomorrow morning (Sunday, September 10). People living in the immediate vicinity are being allowed through the cordon to return to their homes and there are no evacuation plans at this time.

Residents of Heathcote Road and Warwick Gates areas are asked to avoid the Tachbrook Road area at this time.

More information will follow when available.
