Man sentenced for non-recent Bedworth sex offences

Robert Edward Edmondson, aged 48 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced to a total five years and 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to a string of sexual offences against a child.

Appearing at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday (30 August) Edmondson pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years. All the offences were committed against a teenage girl in Bedworth in the early 2000s.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to court bail in February 2017.

Edmondson was also ordered to sign on to the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Edmondson pleaded not guilty to six counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years involving the same girl. These offences will lie on file.

Detective Sergeant Carl Buckley paid tribute to the bravery of the victim saying: "She lived with what Edmondson did to her for more than a decade before reporting it. Her bravery in coming forward after all that time meant that Edmondson could not escape his past and a dangerous sexual offender was brought to justice.

"Hopefully the sentencing will send a message to victims of sexual offences, whether recent or non-recent, that you will be listened to, you will be supported and we will investigate and bring offenders to justice."
