CORRECTED Man dies following M42 collision

CORRECTION Please note a correction to the vehicles being driven and the direction of the vehicle.

An 83-year-old man from Coventry has died following a collision on the M42 last night (Saturday 19 August).

A 74-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she is currently in a critical condition.

The collision occurred at 8.50pm on the southbound road between junction 10 and 11 near Granada Service Station at Atherstone. The gold Vauxhall Agila containing the man and woman was in collision with a Peugeot 307.

The driver of the Peugeot is reported to have left the scene on foot and police are currently working to locate him.

Detective Inspector Tim Sharp said: "The deceased's next of kin has been informed and specially trained officers are offering support to his family.

"We're currently working to locate the driver of the Peugeot and would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.

"We're also keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision."
