Shipston Male Sentenced to 5 Years Imprisonment

32 year old Matthew KEEN (pictured), formerly of Shipston on Stour, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving at Warwick Crown Court yesterday (18th May). His court appearance followed an incident on 24th October 2015 where KEEN had left a public house in Shipston on Stour and driven his Volkswagen Golf towards Warwick. With two passengers on board KEEN lost control of his car on the A429 North of Wellesbourne due to his manner of driving and crashed on an S-bend.

The rear seat passenger in KEEN's car was seriously injured as a result of the crash and while other people stopped to help, KEEN left the scene and only handed himself in to Police the following morning. Despite the efforts of a Doctor who stopped to assist and hospital staff the injured rear seat passenger later died.

At Court yesterday KEEN was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and disqualified from driving for seven and a half years.

Just over 12 months prior to this crash I seized a car from KEEN as he was driving it through Shipston uninsured - he was later fined £600 and issued 7 penalty points. He also has a conviction from 2001 for taking a car without consent whilst drink driving in Tysoe - this resulted in an 18 month driving ban at the time.
