The Thieves Managed to get away with a number of garden tools such as a red Honda petrol lawnmower, a STIHL Strimmer and two Electric Drills. The items and the damage caused is expected to be in excess of £600.

PC Scot Ramsell of the North Warwickshire West Safer neighbourhood Team said "we would urge all homeowners who have outbuildings, particularly sheds, to take time to review the security of their buildings. By their very nature outbuildings are vulnerable to theft as they are often some distance from the main property, of timber construction and don't usually have alarms fitted.

There are a number of products now on the market that can help in securing your outbuildings and we would encourage you to visit the Neighhourhood Watch site where you can purchase heavily discounted security items - often at cost price.

We would also ask that homeowners make the following checks to ensure that their outbuildings are safe as possible.

· Do you have a shed alarm fitted?

· Does your outbuilding have appropriate security on the door and windows?

· Are there high-value items stored in your outbuildings could they be better placed inside your property or garage if available?

· Are all your high-value items property marked with property marking equipment such as CRE MARK or at least a UV pen?

· Is your insurance company aware of high-value items in your outbuildings? they may need listing separately on your insurance policy otherwise you may not be appropriately covered should the worst happen.

· Also encourage homeowners to ask the question if I didn't have a key for my outbuilding could I still get in if the answer is yes then it's no different for a Thief.

Your local safer neighbourhood team will always be happy to come and view your outbuildings to see if there's any way we can improve security at your property.

You can also claim your free UV pen from your local safer neighbourhood team.
