Apprentice schemes

Apprenticeship Scheme banner - Holly Warwickshire

The Warwickshire Police apprentice project looks to provide a variety of people with experience in policing whilst studying for a professional qualification. It provides them with a wide range of workplace skills, and enables the staff members supporting them to build on their supervisory and mentoring experience.

Our apprenticeships offer the opportunity for a wide range of people to gain experience in West Mercia Police while studying for a professional qualification. Apprenticeships are available from Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) through to Level 7 (Bachelor's or Master's Degree equivalent). West Mercia Police has been working to increase the number of apprenticeships available, and this has become an increased priority following the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy and Public Sector Target for apprenticeships.

While in the past apprentices have tended to be young people, there is now no age limit to undertake an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships can also be used to up skill existing employees, as long as the apprenticeship is giving the individual new skills and knowledge to enable them to achieve competence in their role.

The apprentice scheme is a welcome addition to what Warwickshire Police can offer the public in terms of opportunities in joining the police family, and there are a number of other business benefits to having an apprenticeship programme within the force.

Apprentices gain a wide variety of workplace skills through on-the-job training, and enable those staff members supporting them to build on their supervisory and mentoring experience. As an apprentice, you'll:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain job-specific skills
  • earn a wage and get holiday pay
  • get time for study related to your role (usually one day a week).

Apprenticeships take one to five years to complete, depending on their level.
