Warwickshire Police

WARWICKSHIRE POLICE PORTS UNIT

Warwickshire’s Port Unit is based at Coventry Airport and has a main responsibility for national security. The Ports Unit is particularly interested in any intelligence relating to terrorism, espionage, sabotage and serious and organised crime such as drugs, human trafficking, paedophile offences and arms procurement.

We work closely with UKBA (Customs and Immigration) and other maritime and aviation partners. An Integral part of the units remit is dealing with aircraft flying to and from the Common Travel Area of Great Britain (Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man).

Warwickshire’s Police Area contains 80 diverse operational airfields from non-designated airports such as Wellesbourne and flying schools to hotel helipads and personal grass strips.

Together with other Police officers, Government departments and agencies operating at UK Borders, we monitor the movement of people and goods in support of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy – CONTEST. Our work at ParcelForce World Wide Hub and inland Railway Freight Terminals within Warwickshire also support this strategy.
