What happens if I lose my certificate?
The loss of such an important document is not to be taken lightly and you should inform the police at once. It is possible, though unlikely, that a certificate could be used to obtain firearms or shotguns illegally. More importantly if it falls into the wrong hands it will immediately tell a criminal where weapons can be located. Certificates should be treated like any other important document such as Insurance Policies or Deeds and kept in a secure location.
If you are unfortunate enough to lose your certificate through any means report the matter to your local police station and then request a replacement in writing from the Firearms Licensing Office. the cost of a replacement shotgun certificate is £8 and a firearm certificate £9. those proven to have been damaged or defaced by accident or normal wear and tear will be replaced free of charge.
