WARWICKSHIRE AGAINST DOMESTIC ABUSE

Warwickshire Against Domestic Abuse

Warwickshire Against Domestic Abuse is a multi-agency campaign aimed at encouraging victims of domestic abuse to seek help for themselves and their families. The campaign will be ongoing throughout 2008 and beyond, and will run in partnership with Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Domestic Violence Support Services, Domestic Abuse Counselling Services, Victim Support Warwickshire and Warwickshire County Council (amongst others).

If you are a victim of domestic abuse who feels unable to approach Warwickshire Police, but would still like to talk to someone, you may wish to call the Warwickshire Domestic Abuse line on: 0800 408 1552 (freephone - open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays). Outside of these times, you may wish to contact the 24hr National Domestic Abuse Line (0808 2000 247) run in partnership between Women's Aid & Refuge, or visit the Talk2Someone.org.uk website.

As part of the Warwickshire Against Domestic Abuse campaign, Warwickshire Police in partnership with Warwickshire County Council, Warwickshire Domestic Violence Support Services, the Domestic Abuse Counselling Services (DACS) and Victim Support Warwickshire (along with multiple other organisations) have united under one roof to speak out against domestic abuse. Talk2Someone.org.uk has been created to deliver information to victims, perpetrators, young people, friends / family and professionals, in a non judgmental environment. Warwickshire Police

A team of Specialist Domestic Violence Officers have been trained to provide expertise in dealing with victims of Domestic Violence / Abuse and linking in with partner agencies where appropriate. Any victims who come forward to Warwickshire Police should feel that any allegation of domestic violence that they make would be treated seriously and sensitively, with consideration being given to any confidentiality issues. Warwickshire Domestic Violence Support Services

Warwickshire Domestic Violence Support Services is a voluntary organisation which exists to support those experiencing domestic violence. They offer a range of services to meet the needs of those coming to them for help and support, either directly or via a process of referral. Domestic Abuse Counselling Services (DACS)

Counselling provided by trained DACS volunteers will support victims of abuse to free themselves from violence. DACS provide initial therapy courses that run 12 weeks but often last longer to support victims to rebuild their lives. Victim Support Warwickshire

Victim Support is the independent national charity for people affected by crime. Their volunteers are specially trained to give information, practical help and emotional support to people who have been threatened or abused. Warwickshire County Council

As part of the Community Protection Department’s role of leading Warwickshire County Council’s contribution to a safer Warwickshire - the Community Safety Unit are responsible for commissioning services and providing information for those affected by domestic abuse. Two services that were recently commissioned / introduced include the Domestic Abuse line (0800 408 1552) for victims, and the Talk2Someone.org.uk website.
