I Need Help or Advice

REPORTING INCIDENTS

If you need to report an incident to the police the following methods may be used:

Telephone
Either the 999 system in the event of an emergency, or the normal telephone numbers for all other incidents.
Police station
Attend the station or office in person and speak to a member of staff, or police officer.
In person
Report the matter to an officer who is on patrol, including a community support officer (CSO).
Post
Write to your local police station outlining the problem, do not use this method in the event of an emergency.

In all of the above cases please think about the action you can take prior to the police being told.

  • Is it an incident that the police need to be involved, such as a civil dispute over money being owed?
  • Does your incident require police quickly, or is it just a case where advice is required?

Please remember that the police prioritise all incidents and that you may have to wait for a specified amount of time, as other incidents may require urgent police attention.
