How does VIP get the information it needs to keep witnesses and victims in the picture?

Being a multi-agency unit, VIP is able to utilise information throughout Warwickshire with the support of the local County Information Sharing Protocol.

VIP has access to a national Witness Management System (WMS) that is part of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) IT system and is linked to specific information within the CPS domain. CPS staff are also able to access relevant and appropriate information on WMS relating to victim and witness issues impacting on prosecution cases.

Complementing the WMS is the police NSPIS Case Preparation and Custody system. These applications allow VIP to access vital crime case information as the case is compiled and receive relevant information regarding offender details, initial court date and other key details.

In time, the police NSPIS case applications will automatically feed the CPS IT systems and those systems adopted by the Courts Service - Crown and Magistrates. This will improve efficiency and effectiveness within the criminal justice system.
