Warwick Combined Court consists of the Crown Court and the County Court.
Crown Court
The Crown Court in Warwick is a ‘first tier’ court, which means that it is able to deal with the most serious criminal cases as well as hearing some referrals from the Magistrates’ Court. Cases in the Crown Court are heard by a judge and a jury, which is made up of twelve people selected at random from the electoral register. The Crown Court has the authority to impose greater sentences than the Magistrates’ Court, reflecting the seriousness of the cases it handles.
County Court
The County Court in Warwick deals with civil proceedings and is able to hear small claims disputes. The more substantial debt and damage claims may initially be managed at Warwick but transferred to Coventry to be finalised.
