Whilst the delivery of safety engineering interventions and highway management and maintenance are obviously the responsibility of highway authorities, Warwickshire Police are a Statutory Consultee regarding traffic management issues and a key stakeholder in protecting road users.
The Road Safety Unit provide the Force’s expertise in this business area and the team have built strong working relationships with the relevant areas of both Warwickshire County Council and the Highways Agency.
The Road Safety Unit are engaged with highways authorities over safety sensitive network operation issues where ‘the policing perspective and experience’ add value to the problem assessment and solution development processes.
Pertinent collaborative working with highway authorities includes Road Safety Audits, post crash scene investigations, safety improvement schemes, development and new roads planning, speed limit reviews and road works and major events planning.
Where collisions occur as a result of highway factors, Warwickshire Police are the investigating agency.
