Car crime makes up nearly 20% of all crime throughout England and Wales and it is regarded as a policing priority within Warwickshire. This package gives you straightforward advice on how to help you keep your vehicle and property safe. The most common items of property that are stolen are:

• Lap top computers and briefcases from business and leisure car park areas.
• CD players and CDs, bags and coats of any description and power tools from vehicles parked on the street.

Removing property from vehicles – a notice is enclosed which you can hang on your rear view mirror advising potential offenders that you have removed property from your vehicle.

Security Marking Property – warning stickers and an ultra violet pen are enclosed for this purpose. Please mark your radio as well as individual CDs etc with your postcode followed by your house number ie CV23 9BE/76.

Remember PROTECT:

P ark somewhere safe – a garage or a well lit street.
Reduce the risk of theft – use alarms, immobilisers and locking devices.
Obvious targets such as stereos should be removed if possible.
Take valuables with you – handbags, phones, cassette tapes, CDs and even loose change are valuable to a thief.
Every time you leave your car, lock the doors and close the windows.
Car keys should never be left in the ignition if you are away from your car.
Thieves will also enter a house to steal car keys. Hide your keys and keep your car.
