Taking control of Crimestoppers calls
Do
- discourage callers from giving their name and address
- ask for information about the offender:
- name/nickname
- address
- date of birth/age
- domestic circumstances
- are there children/dogs in the house?
- names of other householders
- ethnicity
- height
- build
- tattoos or scars
- hair colour
- distinguishing features
- vehicles used
- mobile number
- been in trouble before?
- do they work/what do they do?
Don’t
- ask why the caller is phoning
- put the caller under negative pressure
- put anything on the log that will identify the caller, ie don’t put sex of he caller or their accent or the time or something like “it’s a neighbour/they live in my street” any of these could potentially identify the caller
