-- WHAT TO DO IF YOUR HOME IS BURGLED

A secure home will reduce the risk of loss, harm or damage to your house and property. In the unfortunate circumstances that your home is burgled, here are a few steps that you should take.

  • If you think that someone has broken into your home and that the burglar could still be inside, don't go in, but dial 999 from your mobile phone, a nearby payphone or from a neighbour's house and wait for the police.

  • If a burglary has taken place and the perpetrator has left the premises, ring the police on 01926 415 000.
  • When calling the police always mention if you are a Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator or Scheme Member.
  • Please be patient if your non-urgent call is re-directed.
  • While waiting for the police to arrive, do not touch or move anything especially at the point of entry or exit. Do not touch items that have been moved, as you could destroy valuable evidence.
  • The police officer who reports your burglary can also tell you about the help and support your local Victim Support scheme can provide, and be able to give you basic advice on home security.
  • Ask the police for an Incident Number. You will need this for your Home Insurance provider.
