Warwickshire Police is re-launching its Police Support Volunteer Scheme to encourage residents from across the county to help in protecting our communities from harm. The scheme is being re-launched to enhance the service provided to the local communities through all areas of our policing organisation.

What is a Police Support Volunteer?

Being a volunteer means contributing some of your time to help Warwickshire Police improve the quality of service to our communities. The amount of time you decide to volunteer will be up to you and will be agreed during the application process.

What are the benefits of volunteering for the police service?

Volunteering for the police enables residents to make a difference in the area where they live. It is also an opportunity to develop interpersonal skills, take part in additional and relevant training, enhance CV's, make new friends and help improve the police service in the local community. The knowledge that you are helping to improve the quality of service amongst the communities and increasing the trust and confidence in Warwickshire Police.

What kind of roles will a Police Support Volunteer be involved in?

Volunteers are involved in various aspects of service from helping Safer Neighbourhood Policing Teams to develop close relationships within their communities, updating web sites, to contacting the public to update them on the progress of police investigations or gathering further information, offering crime prevention advice and general administration tasks. There are some exciting new volunteer opportunities including volunteering within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Scenes of Crime Department and many others dependant on organisational need.

What sort of skills and experience do volunteers need?

We don't ask for any qualifications or specific experience. We are looking for people from all backgrounds with a variety of different skills and experiences to help us in our work.

What do volunteers get from Warwickshire Police?

Warwickshire Police understands that your time is valuable and there are many and varied reasons for volunteering and we in return are committed to develop your skills as a volunteer within our organisation.

Support: If you are approved as a volunteer, you will be provided with advice, guidance, and support that will help you carry out your activities.

Training: You will not be expected to do tasks that you are not qualified to do. Appropriate training will be provided.

Expenses: Volunteers can claim certain travelling and other out of pocket expenses. These will be agreed if you are approved as a volunteer.
