Because of their non-confrontational role they are encouraged to observe and not get directly involved in situation where personal injury may occur.
However, there have been instances where PCSO have been directly involved which has led to an arrest or other action eg:
- Illegal immigrants
- Burglar leaving premises as PCSO patrols area
- Unlicensed salespeople on service areas
- Identifying bogus officials
- Discovery of stolen material whilst on foot patrol
- Identification of wanted persons whilst on foot patrol
- Identifying vehicles used in crimes
- Seizure of vehicles
PCSO often get involved in long-term projects involving business plans. These projects include youth group projects, proposals for new skate boarding areas, lighting for recreational areas, shelters for park areas all of which take time and patience to achieve a conclusion.
