Police Community Support Officers

REVIEW

An Internal Review undertaken in June showed that the public’s reaction was favourable and that they wanted to see more. In Sept and Oct 2003 a further 13 were taken on bringing the numbers up to 24. Numbers were increased at the original stations plus for the first time PCSO’s were deployed to Warwick, Kenilworth, Alcester and Corley Services

Among these new PCSO were 2 where funding was obtained from Welcome Break and Stratford District Council. As a further development another PCSO was taken on with funding through the Touchstone Housing Organisation to patrol within the Camphill area of Nuneaton.

The review also assessed the impact the PCSO were having in their communities and within the "police family". The result of which has shown them to be extremely effective when dealing with issues such as:

  • Abandoned Vehicles
  • ABC Monitoring
  • ASBO Monitoring
  • Bike Coding
  • Crime Prevention Talks to Vulnerable Groups
  • Fly Tipping
  • Nuisance Motorbikes
  • Nuisance Youths
  • Production of Videos on Crime Prevention
  • Promoting Neighbourhood Watch
  • School Liaison Visits
  • Shed Watch
  • Smart Water
  • Talks to Ethnic Groups concentrating on Females in these Communities
  • Targeting "Hot Spot" Crime Areas
  • TV and Radio Interviews
  • Visual Audits of Communities
  • Working with Multi-agencies to Enhance Areas
