Any operational officer/staff member required to drive Mercedes Sprinter type vans/buses for the purpose of transporting personnel

Course entry requirements
Students must hold min of a Cat D1 driving licence

Additional Information
A pre-read of the Highway Code will be required for all students

Aim
All students: To assess driver's suitability to drive a large passenger carrying vehicle.

Additionaly

Drivers trained to Standard Response level and above only: To assess drivers ability to respond to incidents utilising legal exemptions to Road Traffic law within their authorised limits

Objectives
At the end of the assessment the candidate will be able to:

  • drive the vehicle having due regard to; carriage of passengers and the size & performance of the vehicle
  • explain the principles of various transmission systems + mechanical/electrical aids eg; traction control/hill descent etc...
  • develop skills in manoevering, reversing and parking the vehicle and, for approprately trained drivers, emergency response
