THIS AUTHORITY ALLOWS THE CANDIDATE TO DRIVE WITHIN SPEED RESTRICTIONS AND TRAFFIC LAWS ONLY

Aim
To demonstrate the performance and underpinning knowledge required to obtain a police driving authority at a basic level

Objectives
At the end of the assessment the candidate should have shown their ability to:

  • Demonstrate the appropriate approach in line with that outlined in the Essential Attitudes/Stress management module of the standard driving section
  • Complete basic vehicle safety checks, recognise, report and document obvious defectsq Be competent in the use of all vehicle controls.
  • Reverse and while doing so enter limited openings to the left and right.
  • turn the vehicle round in the road to face the opposite direction using forward and reverse gears.
  • Park close to the kerb using forward and reverse gears.
  • Approach and turn corners safely.
  • Make adequate progress.
  • Keep a proper distance when following other vehicles.
