Aim
To significantly raise existing skills of a standard driver to the advanced level required for the safe operation of higher performance vehicles and an enhanced ability to manage and conduct pursuits safely and within force directives.

Objectives
At the end of the assessment the candidate should have shown their ability to:

• To develop understanding of the principles of advanced driving as contained within the police driver manual ‘Roadcraft’.
• To develop the essential attitudes required of an advanced driver.
• To develop and maintain the previously learnt skills of advanced driving to a high standard while driving high performance vehicles.
• To enhance prior knowledge and skills of the ‘system of car control’.
• To further develop and enhance advanced driving skills in high performance vehicles.
• To develop the skills and abilities required to drive high performance vehicles safely both within and in excess of the speed limits.
• To develop skills, abilities and attitudes to deal with driving at high speed and act accordingly.
• To enable students to enhance their advanced skills safely on lit and unlit roads during the hours of darkness.
• To enable students to drive high performance vehicles with safety and consideration on motorways and dual carriageways.
• For the advanced driver to demonstrate the correct procedures for evaluating and initiating a pursuit.
• For the advanced driver to develop the skills and abilities required to safely conduct a tactical pursuit.
