Aim
To develop community focussed problem solving methodology for members of safer neighbourhood teams and apply this in the context of addressing community priorities.

Objectives

Part one: Community Centered Problem Solving

By the end of this element the students will be able to;

  • explain the roles of different stakeholders working in partnership to resolve community issues
  • profile the local community, using relevant research techniques and tools, and identify options for community engagement
  • evaluate relevant models, tools and techniques which can be used for collaborative working
  • assess the benefits of engagement strategies and plans, including prioritisation and effectiveness of actions taken

Part two: Addressing community priorities

By the end of this element the students will be able to;

  • identify the external characteristics which may indicate that a community is "at risk"
  • describe strategies that encourage community participation to facilitate change
  • identify strategies for managing anti-social behaviour within a community and evaluate the effectiveness of these
  • explain current legislation relevant to managing anti-social behaviour and its application
