WELCOME TO LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Protecting our communities together is about working with partners to make real differences in reducing harm to people living, working or traveling in Warwickshire. Only when we make a real tangible difference to people's experiences can we claim successes and strive to do even better.

Our greatest strength is our workforce and the individuals within it, who must be competent and enthusiastic. Not only enthusiastic to help make people's lives better, but enthusiastic to learn and improve as professionals in public service, seeking life-long learning and development.

My choice of words is deliberate: "learning and development" and NOT purely "training". Training is often the appropriate solution available for a performance issue, but not always.

"Learning and development" is ALWAYS the appropriate solution.

Our workforce is changing rapidly. It looks different and better in terms of the office, skills and experience, and this makes it an exciting time to be part of this wonderful public service as we radically develop our services, in a more focused way than I can remember, putting communities first. Providing opportunities for police officers and staff to work closely in public contact operational activity is a fantastic way of the force benefiting from diverse approaches, and thereby introducing new experience and professionalism to better protect people from harm.

As Head of Learning & Development, my pledge to our people is that I will explore opportunities to give the right people access to learning and development to deliver the protection the force needs, ensuring we can protect people from harm.
