Dog Legislation Officers, (D.L.O’s). Warwickshire Police now has two Dog Legislation Officers:
- PS 553 Dean Reid and
- PC 338 Michael Barnett

What is the role of the DLO:
D.L.O’s are a single point of contact (SPOC) to guide and assist officers in the investigation of dog-related allegations of crime.
Where there is clear evidence of a serious offence concerning dangerous dogs the DLO is best placed to help and guide any investigation.
What are a D.L.O’s responsibilities.
- To assist officers in all matters relating to Dangerous Dogs Incidents.
- To conduct examinations of seized dogs and use their expertise to decide if they are of banned breed type.
- To provide expert evidence at court hearings.
- To oversee case management and ensure that proceedings are brought expeditiously where dogs are held in kennels.
- Dog Legislation Officers should take responsibility and be consulted wherever practical prior to any dog being seized
- To establish good working relationships with local authority officers, the RSPCA, and local animal welfare organisations
- There are four banned breeds in the uk these are Pitbull Terrier type, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliera.
