The Chain has been awarded £2,400 to run a series of Keep Streetwise & Safe community safety advice events for people living and working in Lillington in Leamington Spa.
Linda Price, Community Development Worker at The Chain in Lillington said "CBO Dave Valente told me about the grants available from Warwickshire Against Crime and we're delighted to have been awarded this funding for the Keep Streetwise and Safe project which we couldn't do without this money. "
"The project is all about helping members of our community feel more confident when they are walking in the street. We will initially offer training and advice to women using a video of various scenarios as a catalyst for discussion. We also plan to talk to Lillington Neighbourhood Watch and young people too as some also feel intimidated whilst others often do not realise how threatening their behaviour might appear. It's about getting people to look at things from a different perspective and bringing the community together."
The Chain was established in 1999 and is run by volunteers supported by a Community Development Worker to give community information, advice and support in whatever shape is needed to help the local community of Lillington. The Chain also hosts sessions for the police, housing officers, neighbourhood watch and Credit Union at their centrally located office. They produce a quarterly newsletter, seasonal activities and new initiatives such as this one.
"Warwick District Council support rent and utilities for The Chain so everything else we achieve, even buying the furniture, is through our own fundraising."
