WARWICKSHIRE BLACK POLICE ASSOCIATION

The WBPA, the first organisation of its kind in Warwickshire, has the ultimate aim of enhancing the working environment of minority ethnic personnel within the force with a view to improving the quality of service to the public. The WBPA was officially launched on the 4 July 2003.

Full membership is open to all Black people who are serving police officers, special constables and police staff employees of Warwickshire Police. The definition black does not refer to skin colour. The emphasis is on the common experience and determination of the people of African, African- Caribbean and Asian origin to oppose the effects of racism. Associate membership is also available to people whose aims are compatible with and supportive of the aims of the association.

The aim of the WBPA is to:

Improve the working environment of Minority Ethnic Staff based on fairness within the Warwickshire Police Service, with a view to enhancing the quality of service to the public

  • It will meet this aim through the following objectives:
  • To provide a support network for minority ethnic staff
  • To assist the Force in developing recruitment, retention and progression policies, in line with the dismantling barriers
  • To provide professional advice to the Force in promotion of equality
  • To develop relationships between the Force and local Minority Community Groups
  • To work with the Force to meet its obligations under the Race Relations(Amendment) Act 2000 to promote race equality.
