Information about the Stratford & Warwick IAG
The Warwick and Stratford District IAG was previously known as the Race and Religion Incident Review Panel. It has been in existence for about Three years. The group comprises of Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Portuguese representatives plus representatives from Warwickshire Race Equality Partnership. Approximately ten members plus police liaison officers meet on a regular basis. The group is currently seeking to expand its membership to encompass more strands of diversity and to attract members from the African Caribbean, Polish and Irish Communities.
The group meets to look at hate crimes that have recently occurred to examine whether any action could have been taken that might have resulted in a more satisfactory conclusion. The group also tries to identify and discuss any community tension issues and offer advice on how to address such issues.
The group is able to feed back into the community our positive response to hate crime and cohesion. Several cases that have been examined have resulted in further work to report back to the group on the effectiveness of an enquiry.
The group have also looked at time scales involved in hate crimes coming to court in an effort to establish the impact that this might have on victims.
