This paper provides an overview of statistics on ethnicity gathered by Warwickshire Police for the period April 2007 – March 2008. The collection of this data is a requirement under Section 95 of the Criminal Justice Act 1991. The legislation is aimed at “facilitating the performance of such persons (engaged in the administration of justice) of their duty to avoid discriminating against any persons on the grounds of race, sex, or any other improper ground”.

Collection and publication of this data is also an important part of our monitoring duty under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. As we continually expand our data collection systems, including data under disability and gender, this will be incorporated into this report, which is published at least annually. Data featured in this monitoring report is used by policy developers in Warwickshire Police to conduct equality impact assessments and to review the ongoing impact of Force policies from an equalities perspective.

The contents of this report are regularly monitored and reviewed to identify any actions we can take to promote equality of opportunity and eliminate discrimination in out employment procedures and in all aspects of our public service delivery. This data is reviewed by our Confidence and Equality Board and is shared with our Force Independent Advisory groups, who are made up of members of the public.
